In collaboration with Accessible Advocates for Recreation (AFAR), we host classes on scheduled Saturdays throughout the year in San Carlos. In a typical 1-hour class, we’ll start with some cardiovascular and stretching exercises to get warmed up, often including running, skipping, lunges, or hamstring stretches.
Afterwards, we get into short dance combinations. The combinations are a mix of popular dances (ex. Cupid Shuffle, Cha Cha Slide, and Hokey Pokey) or SBSD’s original dance combos.
We follow these short combos by learning a longer piece of choreography, which is taught over the course of a semester. In doing so, we hope to perform this choreography in a culminating performance later on!
In the last portion of class, we usually end with either some freestyle or a game (Simon Says, Freeze Dance, or Follow The Leader) and a cooldown. We like to ask for student song recommendations during freestyles or cooldowns too!
